You Can Do That With Hemp? Yes!

Despite the negative connotation behind cannabis, it has a host of benefits, both medicinal and practical. Taking a look at the latter, a lot of practical cannabis benefits come with hemp. For those who are unaware, hemp is a variant of the cannabis sativa plant that is primarily used for making materials such as clothing, textiles, paper, rope, etc.

It has been commonplace since as early as 2800 BCE, but was outlawed in 1937 with the Marihuana Tax Act. Despite the past decision to outlaw hemp, it has been federally legal since 2019; this newish legal status has proven to be an open door to new forms of production. There are a plethora of practical benefits that come with hemp, and we have decided to highlight four of them to encourage you to engage in healthier ways of producing the things you need.

Hemp can be used for CBD Oil

Hemp flowers and leaves can be used to extract CBD oil, which has a host of benefits for its users. It does not get the user high as THC would, but offers the same benefits that come with THC. Some of these benefits include quelling anxiety and insomnia, pain relief, and even acne reduction. It is legal in states that allow for recreational marijuana use, which has led to increased popularity amongst adults in recent years.

Hemp is a great alternative to cotton

While the two are similar in terms of structure, hemp is more durable, and was actually the standard for clothing. Although hemp itself has not become the standard after its initial outlaw, luxury cannabis brands such as Burb still fight to make smoke-wear commonplace. Hemp clothing lasts longer than cotton and does not wear out as fast, making it great for long-term use. Hemp clothing is also lightweight, making for a more improved wearing experience throughout the day. If you want to get your hands on some hemp clothing, start with the ONNO Men’s Hemp T-Shirt and a pair of Taj Hemp Pants

It is a great building material

Hemp’s strength and durability makes it a great alternative for walls, roof insulation, and flooring. One of the best alternatives comes in the form of hempcrete, a variant of hemp made from the plant’s shivs and lime, pozzolans, or sand. It is chemical free, fire resistant, non-toxic, and biodegradable, making it a great, environmentally-friendly option for building projects. Hempcrete can last for hundreds of years while dealing with environment pressure and general damage. Due to its elasticity, hempcrete can also withstand earthquakes. It’s environmentally friendly and durable, so if you would like to do your part to take care of the planet as a builder, make the switch to hemp.

Hemp wick is a healthier alternative than traditional lighters

If you partake in smoking, hemp wick is the way you want to go. Gas lighters contain butane, which can lead to short term and long-term issues, especially after extended use. Hemp wick allows for a smoother, healthier smoke while also letting the user taste what they’re consuming without any additives. It is also easier to use than a gas lighter, helping the user preserve herb in a healthy way.

These were just four (of the many) practical uses of hemp that we wanted to highlight for you. If you happen to have more suggestions, let’s get the conversation started in the comment section. Not only is hemp often a better option than its alternatives, it’s also better for the environment. If you are looking to do your part and help take care of the planet, making the switch to hemp just might be down your alley.
