Three More Chicago Musicians You Need To Get In Tune With

There are a ton of artists out of the midwest who are making waves right now. You can look at the rap scene in Michigan if you don’t believe me. Chicago is one of music’s hotbeds, and has been for a long time, with underground artists constantly popping out of the woodwork.

With the amount of artists who have been putting on for the city, we decided to put together a list of three more Chicago artists you need to get in tune with. If you want to catch up with more Chi rappers, check out our article “Four Rising Chicago Artists You Need On Your Radar.”

NombreKARI

Kicking off our list is NombreKARI, one of the more authentic rappers the city has to offer. Kari hails from the Bronzeville neighborhood and grew up in the city, an upbringing that has shaped his sound and approach to music. When he gets on a song, he keeps it real. From tracks like “Tulips,” where he dives into the turmoil that stems from uncertain feelings, to his debut mixtape Children Play With Fire, where he reflects on the experiences that shaped him throughout his life, Kari always makes sure to lay his feelings out on the table. His poetic bars mixed with a selection of soul-inspired beats creates soundscapes that tug at the heart, making him one of the hottest Chicago musicians you need to get in tune with.

JB

The second on our list is JB, one of the up and coming producers out of Chicago. He’s been producing since he was in grade school, working day in and day out to perfect his sound. He blends elements of trap, rock and whatever other genre piques his interest to create booming beats. His production on tracks like King GC’s “Pop Flow” utilizes elements of New York City drill while peppering some of his personal elements to create a soundscape for King GC to spit non-stop bars. His versatility shines on tracks like “Off the Block” by S I X & Young God, as he creates a sound more akin to Chicago trap, mixing in pianos and slick 808s with the help of fellow producer Chico. If you’re looking for a producer who can fit in multiple lanes, you need to tune in with JB. You can learn more about him by watching our interview here.

D2X

The closer of our list is D2X, who feels like the perfect blend between the past and the future. Take a look at his album The Color Blue. As it opens, it feels like the end of a victory lap, relying on a mixture of trap and blues/jazz. He puts Chicago on his back, representing the city through effortlessly smooth freestyles and intricately crafted written bars. If you need someone to put you in the mood to win through the use of real, relatable bars and well-crafted production, D2X is your guy. Hurry up and get in tune.
